Since the 2022 ventriloquist conVENTion, and talking with the brilliant Nina Conti, I have been inspired to search for truth in my puppet performance.
Comedy lies in truth. What makes a wonderful ventriloquist act is everything in reaction that builds to the next. The pauses, the stares, the subtle nuances. It's all relatable and funny if it's true to the character. Anyways, I thought of doing this video with Mervin, so I did. I wanted to make it casual, build up the illusion, and then end by breaking it. I usually don't like showing the puppet sans hand, but felt it fitting in this piece. I hope you find it funny.
I'm just venting.
